Hello Everyone,

Out of the eerie lights I have discussed so far this one seems to have had an investigation that brought it closer to being explained. Maybe it’s because it wasn’t reported until later in the last century when cars, planes and other modern “lighted” objects were more relevant. But to me the Paulding Light still captures a little bit of eeriness.

Paulding Light:

The Paulding Light gets its name from the town nearby of Paulding, Michigan. The mysterious and often ghostly appearance has been reported since the 1960s. However, unlike many of the other eerie, unexplained lights we discuss, the Paulding Light was first observed when traffic in the area was heavy or in some cases already existed.

Yet, the light still captures the mysterious mindset that the other unexplained lights do. Many of the locals claim it can’t be the traffic. A series of investigations using telescopes Continue reading

Hello Everyone,

Well, at least I was on top of this week as we once again discuss an eerie light phenomena. This haunting light resides, or is often seen, along the railroad tracks in Gurdon, Arkansas. That is why its called the Gurdon Light.

Once Again….Cars?

Like, many of the other lights we will be discussing in the next several blogs, or have already discussed, many people and investigators blame traffic in the distance. Although there is traffic on the nearby freeway it would not explain the various colors and motions that the Gurdon Light reportedly follows.

On that note the railroad tracks are also still in operation. But I imagine that anyone with a straight head could figure out that a train was coming at the same time the Gurdon Light appeared. A train would most likely consume the faint glow of the light anyways.

Gurdon Light:

As many Continue reading

Hello Everyone,

Well first off, sorry about not getting this out sooner on Monday like I usually do. Been busy. However, I do want to continue my segment about the mysterious an eerie lights that people report in different areas. This week is the Brown Mountain Lights.

Brown Mountain Lights:

The sightings occur near Brown Mountain in North Carolina. Just above the horizon is where the reports say that the Brown Mountain Lights can be seen. Early reports date back as far as 1913 but USGS employees deemed it that the lights were mistaken for something else. In most cases the trains that went through the area or even vehicles. Some even report that this is random campfires.

Yet, the Brown Mountain Lights are most often seen above the horizon. Now you may remember from the last blog post that the mirages and heat waves in Continue reading

Hello Everyone,

Well, we made it through another segment of haunted places on the page but now we take a look at something else. A brief report on The Weather Channel brought this phenomena to my attention and after looking a little further into it. I found out that not only ae the Marfa Lights something I consider and “eerie for thoughts” candidate but there are a lot of other mysterious and haunting lights out there.

So over the next several weeks we will be hearing about some of these haunted and unexplained apparitions of light that people have reported over the years. Often, even photographed and videoed.

Marfa Lights:

The Marfa Lights get there name from the city in Texas. Marfa. Usually showing, or I should say lighting up, just east of Marfa along the highway the lights have fascinated people, and freaked people out Continue reading

Hello Everyone,

I decided to take a little break from the normal topic of Haunted Places in Arizona this week and focus on a particular character in history that many of us have heard of. This Russian man was famous both in his life and of course after death. Which makes Rasputin an eerie character in my view. But perhaps it’s just the rumors.

Rasputin:

Born in 1869 in Siberia of the Russian Empire, Rasputin was brought up as a mere peasant in his youth. After journeying to a monastery he later started gaining some influential aspects among the people. Perhaps this is where we got the nicknames like, “The Mad Monk,” and other similar names. Of course the ‘mad’ part would come later in life.

Although many people are not aware, he had a family. Daughters grew to very old ages and even migrated to the United States and Continue reading

Hello everyone,

To kind of deviate from the regular blog segment of haunted places in Arizona I thought I would talk about a person who was perhaps haunted within himself. That person is Hans Schmidt. A Roman Catholic priest of German Descent who was found guilty of murder and sentenced to death.

Hans Schmidt:

Born in a Bavarian City he immigrated to the United States of America in 1909. His first job as  a priest in the United States did not go smoothly, however. He was then transferred to New York City. This is where is priesthood turned sour.

He met a young women by the name of Anna Aumuller. They formed a secret relationship that was later to go as far as marriage in a private ceremony.

Seems almost romantic when you hear that part of the story. How he fell in love with another emigrant from Europe, Continue reading

Hello Everyone,

One of the horrors of my childhood was kicking over a dead Pack Rat in the desert and finding large brown pill like larvae pulsating on the rotting flesh. It wasn’t until I was older that my curiosity got the better of me and I finally found out what it was. The larvae was in fact the young beginnings of Bot Flies.

Bot Flies:

Bot Flies are, in more ways or less, similar to the common house fly. They have the same features, six legs, buzzing wings, and their eyes that are actually hundreds of eyes. One main difference is how the young begin their cycle of life.

The young begin as eggs that once hatched, detached and follow the warmth of their host, usually a mammal. One they find the warmth they make their way into the skin through any opening possible, often the pores. From then Continue reading

Hello Everyone,

Happy Valentine’s Day, or should I say Lupercalia or bird watching day. Don’t worry, I’ll explain myself in a minute. Although Valentine’s Day has never been a very popular holiday with me it is very important to many. I happily embrace the love that people share together and am in no way against this but it has just never appealed to me as the essence of a holiday. Regardless I will keep others in mind while laying down the creepy, dark, and eerie side of this romantic holiday for those in love.

Valentine’s Day:

Many of us know the story of Valentine’s Day being named for the Saint Valentine who was martyred. Although there are several Saints with the name Valentine that this holiday is believed to be named after the one that is most commonly associated with the holiday is the one who performed the secret marriages Continue reading

Hello Everyone,

First off I want to point out that “Rat King” is not a character from a cartoon many of us watched when we were younger. It is in fact a phenomenon that occurs with real rats when they are seeking warmth. I call it a phenomenon because of the resulting end of the manifestation, so to speak.

What is Rat King?

Well the translation from ancient times is how the part about the “king” comes into play and the “rat” part is kind of obvious. It is rats.

The phenomenon, Rat King, is when several to many rats or other small rodents get together, maybe for heat or comfort, and die in that formation. This can be caused my sticky substances that trap them or perhaps the exposure to the elements themselves.

When the rats die and the carcasses mummify they form a cluster of dead rats, they Continue reading

Hello Everyone,

Omens and Foretelling are like peas and a pod. First off, the definition of an omen is pretty much and event regarded as a portent of good or evil. Some type of psychic vision into the future. Foretelling is just one in the same.

Foretelling is pretty much defined as the ability to predict the future or to predict the future. It does not have to be a consistent thing and can be one individual moment. Just had to clarify that, because I try hard not to confuse anyone as much as possible in my odd style of writing.

Although we hear about them a lot together they are in fact different. An omen is pretty much foretelling is something good or bad is going to happen. They are usually not very distinct in what they mean. Foretelling on the other hand is usually the actually seeing or Continue reading
