Hello Everyone,

Welcome to another little segment of mine I am introducing for the month of October focusing on aspects of Halloween. This time its Trick or Treating.

What is Trick or Treating?

Well most of us can think of only one thing when it comes to Trick or Treating. That would be going house to house on Halloween night and collecting candy or treats dressed in costumes of various natures. Great fun and games, right? Well not always.

In America at one point it was literally what the phrase means. If you don’t give me a treat I will give you a trick. Hence the term Trick or Treating. Now while the going from house to house on different nights of the year in the past was something created before the times of calling it Trick or Treating the phrase did somewhat originate in the America. Houses, factories were Continue reading

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to address the Halloween subject of carving pumpkins or also known as Jack-o’-lanterns. It is not often we hear the term, Jack-o’-lanterns, anymore but I guess times change.

Origin of Jack-o’-lanterns :

Well before they were Jack-o’-lanterns they were called will-o’-the-wisp. At least in the old folklore’s of England and other parts of Western Europe. This started around the mid to late 1600s. The term “Jack” just replaced “Will” but they meant virtually the same thing. One was of the torch. Will of the torch, and the other of the lantern, Jack. It was based off the lighting phenomenon that occurs but the will-o’-the ‘wisp was most commonly just a torch. I know it’s confusing but it slowly grew from a standard torch, a bundle of sticks and what not, to the surrounding vessel that contained the flame.

The carvings from the pumpkins was not original Continue reading

Hello Everyone,

Okay, so some times when I do research on a certain topic it takes me a very long time to finish because something else is mentioned and then I have to research that. This has been both a blessing and a curse. So while I was doing research on the Dreamcatchers a while back I stumbled across something that I thought was something else and had to share it. Windcatchers.

Now when most of us hear someone say Windcatchers, we usually think of those little spinning, colorful decorations that people place in their yards or that little kids carry around. However, the original Windcatchers go back a lot further than that.

Windcatchers:

Now I wish I would have thought about doing this one in the hot summer months but where I live it is still pretty warm. Over 100 degrees some days. And that is why the Windcatchers Continue reading

Hello Everyone,

So I think I am going to touch base on some more random stuff between or last segment of blogs and the next batch that concentrates around a particular subject. Figured it would change it up a little bit for all the readers out there. And once again thank you for all your kind remarks and visitations to the site. So I was sitting at my computer the other day and putting together a list of interesting things and the first thing that came to mind was Dreamcatchers. Mainly because I have many of them in my home but also a rather large just above my computer that I purchased at “The Thing” tourist attraction in southern Arizona. I purchased it on my way back from the White Mountains and since then I have been fascinated with them.

Dreamcatchers Origin:

Most ‘original’ Dreamcatchers were from Continue reading

Hello Everyone,

Once again and as usual thank you for reading. I hope everyone celebrating had a splendid and very Merry Christmas. And those celebrating Chanukah, Happy Chanukah. And to the rest of you Happy Holidays. Still, this blog is going to focus on Christmas and not just Christmas day but the Original 12 Days of Christmas.

The Reason:

It’s interesting how many of us go through day-to-day activities and seldom notice the origin or understand why we do what we do. I myself am guilty of this. However with the modern day technologies at hand, smartphones, it is a lot easier to find explanations at our fingertips for many things. But what about the questions that never arise because we think we know the answer?

Besides the day-today activities and questions that arise what about those with those further underlying factors? What about Christmas and what we think we Continue reading

Hello Everyone,

Thought I would use another place this week to kind of wrap up the Halloween blogs with a holiday that coincides. That would be All Saint’s Day. As some of you already know, whether you learned it form my blogs or from previous sources, All Saint’s Day is a part of the original three day celebration.

All Saint’s Day:

The holiday is usually celebrated on the 1st of November yet this date can change from the different Christian traditions. It is basically a day reserved for praying for the souls in heaven and acts as a date to commemorate the deceased and their lives. Saints of the Christian faiths are particularly observed on this day, hence the name all Saint’s day.

Traditions of Celebration:

Many traditions change in their ways of celebrating the holiday and observing the deceased. Most customs that share similarities are the nagging Continue reading

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for reading as usual. I wanted to add this here as well as my other social media posts so it will reach as much of an audience as possible. Hopefully Pay it Forward.

Several years ago I was admitted into Tucson Medical Center for a severe medical condition. I spent my fair share of days and nights in there. The staff was very nice to me and took care of me and now that things have been going do good for me I am in a position to pay it forward.

Pay it Forward:

Along with some books that have already been sent to the TMC Foundation for the children’s fund, I will also be donating my royalties/profits from this coming quarters book sales of my book Desert Shadows. I am just happy I can finally Pay it Forward to those who gave me so much when Continue reading

Hello Everyone,

I know it might look strange or to modern texting type language to be using the (2) in the middle of Books 2 Movies, but it is the more common form of writing this. Just like B2B in business to business. Anyways back to the point, books to movies.

What it is-Book 2 Movie:

Well what it is, is exactly what it says. It is when a book is turned into a movie. Sometimes this works great for the book and sometimes it hurts it. Sometimes it turns out to be a great film but people don’t like the book. And nowadays we have seen the rise of video games to movies also which has been very successful. Often times I will read a book and then see the movie and feel like it didn’t do the book justice. This in turn is when the book can get Continue reading

Hello Everyone,

Well as usual I was writing along and doing some research after my day job and in the background I had a movie on. I often do this to break up the silence of thought and allow my mind to drift away from time to time on the regular work I am doing. I find it also helpful to break away from the zone of writing and therefore it allows me to free my mind a little and think about other topics or other possibilities in my writing. Don’t get me wrong when I am in a trance or a heavy writing zone everything goes off and I just type away.

Anyways a movie was on and the actors and actresses caught my attention when the screamed that they needed to get to the church. They needed to get there to claim sanctuary form the evil forces that Continue reading
