Eerie for Thoughts: The Spooklight

Hello Everyone,

Well out of all the eerie lights this is my last. Although, I will be discussing certain parts, or reasons why, I chose to do a segment about mysterious and eerie lights in another post. This last haunted light I saved because of a tale that is associated with it. Even though I will not dive much into detail on the tale or legend but it is eerie and sad. This light has a name that no one would suspect has anything to do with a haunted or ghostly light. Just kidding, it’s called the Spooklight.

The Spooklight:

This light was first reported all the way back to the terrible days that included the “Trail of Tears,” in the 1830s. However, the more common reported times was toward the end of the late 19th century and was first documented around 1881.

Eerie for Thoughts: Paulding Light

Hello Everyone,

Out of the eerie lights I have discussed so far this one seems to have had an investigation that brought it closer to being explained. Maybe it’s because it wasn’t reported until later in the last century when cars, planes and other modern “lighted” objects were more relevant. But to me the Paulding Light still captures a little bit of eeriness.

Paulding Light:

The Paulding Light gets its name from the town nearby of Paulding, Michigan. The mysterious and often ghostly appearance has been reported since the 1960s. However, unlike many of the other eerie, unexplained lights we discuss, the Paulding Light was first observed when traffic in the area was heavy or in some cases already existed.

Eerie for Thoughts: Maco Light

Hello Everyone,

I actually found this one by accident when researching a little bit about the other eerie lights. This one seems to hold a lot of credibility because of the large amount of witnesses and the time frame the light existed. The Maco Light carries a haunting luminescent tale through the areas surrounding Maco, North Carolina.

The Maco Light:

Well, like many of the lights, and I am sure you will be hearing this from me a lot, this one occurs around the railroad tracks in the swampy wooded areas by Maco. Kind of odd that so many occur near railroad tracks and also in North Carolina.

Eerie for Thoughts: Flying Dutchman

Hello Everyone,

Thought this recommendation was fun, considering most of us know about this eerie vessel but not many of us know about its origins. We have seen it appear in recent movies which has brought it more to light but how many of you know the original stories of the Flying Dutchman before the stories from the recent “Pirates” movies?

The Flying Dutchman:

The Flying Dutchman was a ship and one point in time. At least many of the stories of origin can attest to that. Whether it was a pirate ship, a merchant vessel, a man-o-war or some general shipping vessel is up to the story and place or origin.

Eerie for Thoughts: Eerie Lights

Hello Everyone,

So we’ve all come to another end of a segment of blogs about scary, spooky and otherwise Eerie Lights. I wanted to do a form of wrap-up to this segment, not only to explain why I choose the haunted lights but also to touch on a few other areas that were not covered in the previous blogs.

First off: What Makes Them Eerie Lights

Well, first off all it is usually a light in the middle of the night, in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of…..okay kidding, but you get the idea. It is something that is not natural or if it is, it is unexplained. At least not explained to some level.

Haunted Places: Landmark Restaurant

Hello Everyone,

Well one of our last places through our tour of haunted places in Arizona is going to be another restaurant. The interesting thing about the restaurants so far is that they most often started as something else and eventually became what we know them as today. This can be said about the haunted restaurant in Mesa, Arizona known as the Landmark Restaurant.

Landmark Restaurant:

Well first let it be known that it was called the Landmark Restaurant, up until May of 2015. They had to close their doors and this upset a lot of people who were fans of the eatery. However, it wasn’t always a place to eat.

The building was originally a Mormon church built in 1908. Throughout the years many buildings were added on as the church fellowship grew. Eventually it was deemed not suitable for the large number of attendees and abandoned as a Continue reading →

Haunted Places: Jerome Grand Hotel

Hello Everyone,

This week’s haunted place in Arizona focuses on, in a way, two categories. Not only is Jerome Grand Hotel a hotel that seems to have some eerie and ghostly instances, it was also a hospital.

Jerome Grand Hotel:

The fact is, Jerome Grand Hotel actually started as a hospital. It was originally built in 1926 as a hospital for the area and the local booming mining industry. In 1930 it was even named the most modern and well-equipped hospital in Arizona.

It remained a well-used hospital until it shut down in 1950. Although there were 9,000 deaths recorded in the hospital. The well-built structure was renovated and purchased in 1994 to become what we know as Jerome Grand Hotel.

The poured in place concrete foundation and structure of the hotel was meant to make it fireproof as well as withstanding the blasts of the nearby mining companies. It Continue reading →

Haunted Places: Vulture Mine

Hello Everyone,

As we continue through our session of haunted places in Arizona this one is a little different from the others. It is not a building or a cemetery but a place within the Earth. The haunted place is Vulture Mine in Wickenburg, AZ. The Gold mine to be more specific.

Wickenburg:

Named after Henry Wickenburg who was also the founder of the Vulture Mine, the town first started being established in 1863. Although some buildings and settlers with gold in their eyes already lived in the area that town did not take off until then. Much of the surrounding area is named after the first prospectors who ventured to the area as well.

The town is primarily in Maricopa County but a good portion of it lies within Yavapai Country also. With a bloody history from the start the town did help pave the way for grounding other Continue reading →

Eerie for Thoughts: Sava Savanovic

Hello Everyone,

I know I’ve done a lot of vampires so far but there are two more I want to share some thoughts on and one is the Serbian tale of Sava Savanovic, or is it a tale?

Sava:

From being the possible owner of the mill down by a river it is told that Sava used the mill to lure in the “millers” when they came to mill their grains. Then he would perform his typical vampire duties of drinking their blood and well…killing them. I wonder if the river would run red after his midnight feasts. Maybe another good little story there.

The Popularity of the Case:
